Yoga Therapy

The Yoga system was originally intended to be taught 1-1, from teacher to student. Therapeutic Yoga is tailored toward building skills that you can take home in order to actively participate in your own empowerment. Our needs as individuals are vastly different & there is an appropriate practice of Yoga for everybody, no matter the circumstances.

Yoga practice could be considered any combination of movement, physical postures, breathing techniques, guided relaxation, mantra, meditation & more; completely tailored to the individual. In essence, anything that moves you toward to you most healthy, vibrant & embodied self. We could call this lifestyle medicine, students are encouraged to take charge of their own wellbeing & are provided with the tools to begin practicing these techniques at home. During practice we work at the physical, mental, emotional & energetic levels to create balance & harmony.

The practice should inform every aspect of life & be appropriate for your current life situation, health, age, cultural background, body type etc. This makes the benefits of Yoga & Meditation accessible to everyone, this system meets you where you’re at & offers a step by step path to self healing, optimum health & mental stability.

Therapeutic Yoga, when approached in a restorative way can be helpful for emotional regulation & processing, stress reduction & mental clarity. When approached in an active way the practice can be helpful for injury rehabilitation, reduction in physical pain & general physical wellbeing. There is a strong emphasis toward building our capacity to better relate to a sense of self, along with simple techniques to self regulate the nervous system, mind & emotions.

As the scope of Therapeutic Yoga is so vast, there are a few recommendations in relation to our approach during sessions.

This approach begins at the physical level, providing the practitioner with techniques to build functional movement patterns & reshape the way they interact with physical movement on a day to day basis. Over time we can develop harmful posture habits that if left unnoticed can cause both pain & injury. Once the body has been made right, the mind tends to follow & we can begin to move towards meditation based practices.

This approach to Therapeutic Yoga can help with:

Injury prevention & rehabilitation, some physical disease, pain reduction, increasing mobility & functionality, restoring natural movement patterns, promoting blood & lymph flow, reintegrating mind-body connection.

Functional Movement and Rehabilitation

Restorative and Relaxation Based Yoga

The restorative approach is usually recommended when a person is in a state of deficiency. This can be helpful in building a set of practices that can move the practitioner toward a state of deep rest on a daily basis. Rest is the foundation of health & it is imperative that our bodies can move toward it effectively. Throughout our lives we tend to hold emotions within the body, causing tension & stress to build up in the tissues, restorative practices can be used daily to promote deep rest & physical healing.

This approach to Therapeutic Yoga can help with:

Emotional regulation & processing, nervous system regulation, stress reduction, relief from anxiety, digestive issues, promoting healing within the body,

Breath & Meditation

Meditation is not seperate to Yoga, it is the essence of Yoga. But meditation can seem impossible without structure. The Yoga tradition holds a systematic approach to calming the mind. This begins in the body, then moves toward union with breath & finally stilling thought patterns.

Through the use of a systematic approach to meditation we can undo perpetual thought patterns & begin to shine the light of awareness on the belief structures that create our individual reality. Once we master the mind, we master our life.

This approach to Therapeutic Yoga can help with:

Stress reduction, mental clarity, deepening spiritual connection, cultivating deep rest & restoration, connecting to sense of self, connecting to life purpose.
